ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2025) Gaming Laptop (i7 14650HX, RTX 5060)

16” FHD+ 16:10 165Hz/3ms Display, NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 5060 Laptop GPU, Intel® Core™ i7 Processor 14650HX, 16GB DDR5, 1TB Gen 4 SSD, Wi-Fi 7, Windows 11 Home

Key features of this ASUS ROG Strix G16 RTX 5060 gaming laptop

Intel Core i7 processor 14650HX

This is a very high-performance processor, and one that’s going to be excellent for high fps gaming, but also a bit of a powerhouse from a workstation perspective. It has 16 cores (8P and 8E) and 24 threads, which puts it in a very good position to handle general multitasking, like streaming, recording, having Discord open when gaming, and so on, but it’s also very much aligned to how applications like Blender and Adobe Premiere Pro work at their best, which will result in faster edits, and rendering and exporting times, thanks to this CPU’s superior multithreaded performance. In terms of power, you’ve got a 5.2GHz boost clock speed, which is solid for single-core performance and, when combined with its 30 MB L3 cache, makes for an excellent option for FHD+, high fps, low frame latency gaming, which the RTX 5060 targets.

Display

You’ve got an FHD+ screen here, which basically gives you a bit more vertical room, which is great if you’re working on multiple windows, but also good for gaming if you’ve got a chat open, for example. It’s 300 nits, which is a decent level of brightness that’ll make colors pop and be viewable in well-lit environments, and it’s also 165Hz with a low response time of 3ms, which is great for fast-paced gaming with reduced motion blur and ghosting.

RAM and storage

On top of its 1TB of storage, it features 16GB of DDR5, which is going to be decent if you’re multitasking, working on large files in creative applications, like Photoshop, or playing more demanding open-world and asset-heavy titles. 32GB of DDR5 would be much better, but for the price and the fact that the RTX 5060 is better suited to esports gaming in FHD, rather than running huge open-world games and simulators, it’s not too much of a miss.

RTX 5060 mobile

The RTX 5060 mobile is one of the best graphics cards to go for if you’re sticking to a budget and want something primarily for FHD, high fps gaming. It features 3,328 CUDA cores, 8GB of GDDR7 VRAM, and a 128-bit bus, and it packs 4th-gen ray tracing cores and 5th-gen tensor cores. The big thing here is its AI-enhanced performance, which can improve perceived fps, enhance ray tracing performance, and more with DLSS and MFG. Of course, while it can be used for a touch of 1440p, its 8GB of VRAM is going to be the limiter when it comes to higher resolutions and textures. For creatives on a budget, it’s not bad, especially with its 9th Nvidia Encoders for faster exporting and better quality video, and tools like Nvidia Broadcast, which are great for budding content creators.

Things to consider

This is really the sweet spot for RTX 5060 laptops when it comes to pricing, especially if you want a better processor to handle creative workloads and multitasking more easily. That being said, if you drop closer to $1,000, you can start finding gaming laptops that are pretty much fully focused on gaming, which would be a more cost-effective option if you simply want something for FHD gaming on the go. Check out some of the Acer Nitro and ASUS TUF options, which are both more gaming-focused and very affordable.
