What we like about this ASUS ROG Strix 27-inch OLED gaming monitor
Third-generation OLED display with DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification
So not all OLED monitors are the same, and unless you’re pretty knowledgeable about various specs, it can be quite hard to know what you’re getting at face value. The good thing here is that this monitor has a DisplayHDR True Black certification, which means it has to deliver excellent contrast with deep blacks, a very wide color range with good accuracy, and bright peak brightness, too. With this monitor, it’s essentially a cut above your more affordable models, which don’t always have this certification, which is a good thing if you’re after lifelike picture quality. Video editors in particular are going to be able to make good use of this display, as it has 99% DCI-P3 color coverage and Delta E<2 color accuracy.
240Hz refresh rate for fast-paced gaming
You’ve got 240Hz here, which means you can game at up to 240fps, which is more than enough for competitive gaming and gives you a load of headroom to showcase what your gaming rig can do at various settings. On top of this, it has a low 0.03ms response time, which means that motion blur and hosting are kept to a minimum, and with ELMB, this is even further reduced for super smooth gameplay.
Sweet spot resolution to size ratio
You’ve got a QHD display here coming in at 27 inches, which is bang on the money if you’re looking to make the most out of the resolution, and still get something with crisp picture quality, without the expense of 4K. It’s also a versatile size for different types of games, as it’s small enough for competitive gaming, and large enough to still give a sense of immersion if you’re sitting a little closer to it.
OLED Care Pro suite for peace of mind
This monitor is stuffed with anti-burn-in features. You’ve got a Neo Proximity Sensor, which turns on a screen saver automatically when it senses you’re away from the monitor. There’s a large custom heatsink on the monitor itself to prevent excess heat build-up, and top vents for enhanced heat dissipation, pixel cleaning, logo and taskbar detection, and much more.
Things to consider and potential alternatives
First off, I recently found a QD-OLED monitor with a higher 360Hz refresh rate from Philips on Amazon for under $550, so I’d check that out as a solid alternative if you’re interested in something for up to 360fps gaming. As for this ASUS ROG monitor, it’s very good, and certainly a premium model, and actually quite well priced all things considered. I’d say that if you’re going for even better OLED performance, it’s not a bad idea to explore some of LG UltraGear’s monitors, as some have high VESA DisplayHDR ratings. Personally, I think this LG UltraGear QHD, 280Hz OLED gaming monitor would be a very good way to go, if your budget allows, and it’s on sale on Amazon, too.
