Aftershoot Rolls Out AI Retouching to Speed Up Portrait Workflows, and it’s Free Until September
Aftershoot has just rolled out the early release of its new AI Retouching tool, aiming to simplify portrait retouching. Retouching is one of the most time-consuming parts of a photographer’s workflow, so any time saved on this will be very welcome. This feature was previously only available to a select group of early access users, but is now open to everyone, and completely free to use until September 2025.
If you’ve been using Aftershoot for culling and editing, the addition of AI-powered retouching might be the missing piece in your workflow. It handles tasks like skin smoothing, blemish removal, glare reduction, and even object removal, all within the same platform.

Manual retouching can eat up hours, especially for portrait and wedding photographers delivering large galleries. Aftershoot’s goal is to cut that time significantly while keeping results realistic.
“Photographers told us two things: retouching takes too long, and it often looks unnatural,” said Harshit Dwivedi, Founder and CEO of Aftershoot. “We’ve trained our models to handle real-world scenarios like glare, skin texture, and flyaway hairs, all while giving photographers full control.”

What Does the AI Retouching Do?
Retouching portraits can be tedious, especially when it comes to large batches or group shots. Aftershoot’s AI Retouching tool aims to take that off your plate, automating common tasks while keeping results natural and detailed.
Key features include:
- Skin Smoothing (Face & Body) – Adjusts texture and tone while keeping natural details intact, even in group shots.
- Blemish & Wrinkle Removal – Targets acne, pigmentation, and fine lines without over-processing.
- Face & Eye Enhancement – Brightens facial features, reduces shine, and sharpens eyes.
- Eyeglass Glare Removal – Cleans up reflections while reconstructing hidden details.
- Stray Hair Removal – Tidies up flyaways without affecting overall hair volume.
- Teeth Whitening – Enhances brightness while avoiding that unnaturally bleached look.
- Object Removal – A patch tool for seamlessly deleting distractions.
- Selective Subject Retouching – Apply edits to specific people in a photo for personalised adjustments.
The tool also supports batch processing, letting users sync edits across multiple images, and offers presets for consistent styling. For finer control, a Correct Changes feature allows photographers to remove masks from specific areas, preserving original details where needed.

Seamless Workflow
The new feature slots right into Aftershoot’s existing pipeline. You can cull, edit, and now retouch without leaving the platform. To get started, just export your images from Lightroom or Capture One (or Aftershoot itself), then reimport them for retouching. It supports both JPEG and TIFF.

Available Now, and Free for a Limited Time
AI Retouching is available now to all Aftershoot users for free until September 2025. After that, it’ll be part of select plans, details of which will be released later on.
You can check out the new AI Retouching feature on the Aftershoot website.
