ASUS wins Computex award in gaming and immersive tech with new WiFi 8 router
ASUS has scored a major win at Computex 2026 in the Gaming and Immersive Tech category with its brand-new ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro router. The new networking device is especially important because it introduces WiFi 8 technology, making ASUS one of the first companies preparing for the next generation of wireless connectivity.
The award was announced through the official Computex Best Choice listings, where the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro stood out thanks to its focus on gaming performance, low latency, and stable connectivity in crowded network environments. While most people still use WiFi 6 or WiFi 7 devices, ASUS is already looking ahead to what comes next.
Unlike previous WiFi upgrades that mainly focused on boosting raw speed, WiFi 8 is designed to improve reliability, responsiveness, and connection quality. That means smoother gaming sessions, more stable streaming, and better performance when multiple devices are connected at the same time.
According to ASUS, the GT-BN98 Pro uses advanced spectrum management and multi-link transmission to keep bandwidth efficient while reducing lag. The router also includes Multi-AP coordination architecture, which helps different access points and mesh systems work together more effectively. This can reduce signal interference and improve overall wireless coverage throughout the home.
For gamers, this is very important as online games depend heavily on stable latency, and even small connection drops can ruin competitive matches. ASUS says its ROG gaming acceleration feature can prioritize gaming traffic automatically to help reduce congestion and improve responsiveness.
The router is also built for high-end home setups and creators. It includes multiple 10Gbps wired ports, allowing fast connections for NAS storage systems, gaming PCs, workstations, and other demanding devices. ASUS AiMesh support is included as well, giving users the option to expand coverage across larger homes.
While ASUS has not revealed the full specifications, release date, or pricing yet, it is already clear that the GT-BN98 Pro will target premium users. Given the hardware and next-generation technology involved, it will likely carry a high price tag when it eventually launches.
