The developers of Borderlands 4, Gearbox Software, recently promised a PC performance patch – now it’s here. It has only been a week since launch, so don’t expect anything too monumental, but it’s something. Ever since the game released, PC gamers have been complaining of stuttering, crashes, and to little surprise, the game holds mixed user reviews on Steam.

Gearbox’s CEO, Randy Pitchford, has been debating with the PC gaming community of the game’s optimization and performance, saying that Borderlands 4 is a “premium game made for premium gamers,” but that hasn’t really won over the fans as you’d expect. What will, however, is a performance patch – and we hope this is just the start.

Borderlands 4 on PC: GPU crashes addressed

This update improves stability on PC, smooths out progression, and updates the Gilded Glory Pack loot and rewards for a more seamless experience. Please restart your game to ensure that the update goes through and to prevent connection errors in matchmaking.

Stability

  • Addressed crashes tied to animation states, audio, and collision checks
  • Addressed various GPU-related crashes

Like we say, we hope this is the start of many improvements, and we’re sure it will be. CEO Pitchford has already said the team is “not stopping” when it comes to PC performance work. Many other niche issues have already been fixed.

The very latest reviews on Steam (dated September 19) still report crashing issues for some players, so there’s clearly still work to be done. We don’t expect these to disappear any time soon, but it would be nice to see another performance updates to get Borderlands 4 out of the red on Steam’s review scoring system.
