Helldivers 2 fans who have been experiencing some funky visuals following an optimization patch last month should be looking forward to a new update today (June 9), arriving at 12 PM UTC. Reports reveal pixelated visuals while using Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling ever since the update arrived, with players labeling the implementation “awful” and “unusable” in its current state.

Arrowhead Game Studios, the developer of Helldivers 2, has faced backlash from players over the past few months regarding the game’s direction and updates. Arrowhead was forced to put out an official Q&A, responding to criticism after the game’s Steam review rating dropped to Mostly Negative. Recent reviews have since improved to Mixed, but there’s room for improvement.

Latest Helldivers 2 patch should deal with DLSS problems

A message from the Community Manager at Arrowhead Game Studios, Katherine Baskin, reveals the hotfix coming today at 12 PM UTC. This converts to 5 AM PDT (Pacific) / 8 AM EDT (Eastern) / 1 PM BST / 2 PM CEST. We’ll have to wait for patch notes to arrive, but the hotfix promises to resolve “some of the issues” caused by the optimization and upscaling patch in May.

Since Arrowhead hasn’t gone into any specifics just yet, we can expect the update to address some of the DLSS issues we’ve seen posted around the web. One post, which gained traction just a couple of days after the upscaling update, comes from u/goodstuff216 on Reddit. The player points out “awful” DLSS artifacting and pixelation on background details.

More players complain of “pixelated” graphics since the update, and even lower FPS – despite upscaling’s aim to boost performance while retaining high-quality visuals. From what we’ve seen, many of these posts are all related to DLSS implementation for Nvidia graphics cards, rather than AMD’s FSR or Intel’s XeSS options.

In the interim, users recommend disabling “any sort of” upscaling options, prompting players to switch to native rendering and TAA (temporal anti-aliasing). Hopefully, the June 9 patch means DLSS implementation is getting a much-needed fix.
