Microsoft Finally Fixes File Explorer’s Jarring White Flash Issue With KB5072043 Update

The latest Windows 11 Insider update, KB5072043, is now rolling out to Dev and Beta Channel testers, moving devices to a newer 26220-series build. This update focuses mainly on fixing some of the most repprted issues related to File Explorer, its search performance, and accessibility.

First of all, Microsoft has fixed a bug that caused File Explorer to briefly show a white flash when switching between pages after recent preview builds. The issue affected navigation and was especially noticeable during frequent folder changes.

KB5072043 also improves Search performance inside File Explorer. Microsoft has removed duplicate file indexing operations, which should reduce background system usage and make searches return results faster. In addition, search reliability has been improved across both system drives and secondary storage, helping File Explorer deliver more consistent results regardless of where files are stored.

The update also resolves an issue that could prevent OneDrive files from opening in RemoteApp sessions, which previously triggered error 0x80070057 for some users.

On the accessibility side, Voice Access support in File Explorer’s Gallery view has been updated. Users can now open photos by saying “click [number]”, removing the need to use the “double click” command and making voice navigation more straightforward.
