More Total War Medieval 3 Tidbits
Change Inheritance Laws And Levy Your Peasants To Invade Your Neighbours
The Creative Assembly is only slowly releasing details about the upcoming Medieval 3 but we picked up two new details. The first is to ensure that if your King’s offspring isn’t up for the job you can change your inheritance laws. Much like in Crusader Kings you will eventually be able to modify how your Kingdom’s government works, possibly even turning it into an elective monarchy not too dissimilar to the Holy Roman Empire. Hopefully you will also be able to make them into a general and send them off on a suicide mission with some out of date troops you need to get rid of.
The second bit of news signifies a huge change to the beginning of the game, you won’t have the ability to build standing armies. Much like it was in the past, until your Kingdom develops to a certain level, you will have to depend on peasant levies to create your early armies. These mobs won’t be terribly effective but then again neither should your neighbour’s levies. The transition to standing armies will be gradual, with the designers expecting it will take you until the 14th century to really get your military going, assuming you can pay for them.
That date is extremely worrisome as the Golden Horde will start making your life miserable long before that! It will still be a few years before we see the release of Medieval 3, so expect plenty of more news and modifications to the design of the game while we impatiently await it’s release.
