Unlock Developer Options On Your Android Phone For Better Or Worse

Disabled By Default, Enable At Your Own Risk

There aren’t many people who don’t have a OS preference for their phone, iOS and Android are very different beasts.  Those who prefer Android based phones have always had the option to enable a variety of developer options, though most wisely stay away from them.  That cautious approach is far less likely to apply to those reading this, which is why it’s worth going over what Android’s developer tools will let you do to your phone.

As with any tweaks, there is the danger of breaking things but thankfully the chances of releasing the magic smoke from your phone is very low.  Should you dare to open the Settings page on your phone and tap the Build Number seven times under About Phone, you will be asked to confirm your choice and should you dare your phone will then declare “You are now a developer!”.  At that point a new item called Developer Options will appear under Settings and you can control some new options on your phone.

TweakTown dives into the various options you will be able to tweak, which include being able to force Dark Mode on apps that prefer the light, forcing your screen to always runs at its maximum refresh rate, and a much more detailed report of how much memory each of your apps are consuming, as well as several more options to play with.

You may want to double check you know the right buttons to press to trigger a factory reset on your phone, just in case.
