Teaching An Old Apple New Tricks, Or Security Patches As It Were
Another New Patch For Old iPhones And iPads
Thanks to four serious vulnerabilities in Apple devices back as far as those running iOS 15.8.7 and iPadOS 15.8.7 there is a new update for elderly Apples. Those devices include the iPhone 6 through iPhone X, including the first generation of iPhone SE as well as iPad devices stretching back to 2014. That is great news for the security minded, as patches on devices a few years old, let alone over a decade are few and far between.
On the other hand, newer Apple devices received patches for these vulnerabilities back in September 2023, which means that for the last two and a half years people using older Apple devices have been vulnerable. It is common to see older Apple tech handed down to friends and relatives who aren’t interested in or can’t afford the latest and greatest tech, or used for things like baby monitors. If you know of anyone on an older Apple device, you should let them know to check for updates as they are unlikely to do so on devices that haven’t seen an update in years.
