Anyone Interested In A $2600 Surface Laptop Ultra

It Has Lots Of AI In It …

Microsoft is now taking pre-orders for the Surface Laptop Ultra, an NVIDIA powered Copilot+ machine for those who want to be able to take their LLM on the road.  The Surface Laptop Ultra models start at a measly $2600 for one containing an  NVIDIA RTX Spark N1X with a Blackwell 5120-core GPU, an 18-core CPU and 24GB of DDR5 with a 512GB PCIe 4.0 SSD at that low price.

You can go bigger, with models available with a with a 6144-core GPU and 20-core CPU RTX Spark N1X, 128GB LPDDR5x and a 2TB PCIe 5.0 SSD but if you have to ask what it costs you cannot afford it.  NVIDIA and Microsoft did an impressive job making it compact, the Surface Laptop Ultra has a 15″ 3270 x 2180 PixelSense Ultra mini-LED touchscreen but is less than an inch thick and weighs a mere 2kg (4.41lbs).

They claim a battery life of up to 12 hours when browsing the web, but didn’t mention the length of time it will last when running LLM models.  Microsoft and NVIDIA also designed a brand new cooling system for the Surface Ultra Laptop which is reportedly 30% more effective than the previous generation.

Read more about it and it’s supposed first built-in USB-C magnetic charging here.
