Borderlands 4 already has a 20% discount on Steam, just over a month after it launched
Officially released on September 11, it has been just over a month since the latest addition to the Borderlands franchise was released. Much like a handful of other AAA game releases lately, Borderlands 4 has had a fairly rocky start, chiefly due to performance issues and optimization. A performance patch soon arrived, but the game still holds Mixed user reviews on Steam.
There’s not even a seasonal Steam sale happening right now, but Borderlands 4 has received a surprise 20% discount on the popular PC gaming platform. This goes for all three editions: Standard, Deluxe, and Super Deluxe. The only event running right now is Next Fest, designed to celebrate upcoming games (and their playable demos).
All editions of Borderlands 4 are on sale during Next Fest
Some gamers may suggest this proves that the price tag was too greedy, but we doubt Gearbox Software or 2K is going to pass comment on that. In any case, below is a rundown of the discount for each edition. The special promotion will be running until October 20, which also marks the end of Next Fest.
| Borderlands 4 edition | Discount price (20%) | Original price |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | $55.99 | $69.99 |
| Deluxe | $79.99 | $99.99 |
| Super Deluxe | $103.99 | $129.99 |

20% off right now is a nice early discount for such a blockbuster franchise, so if you weren’t sure about buying the game on launch, now might be a good time to buy. The next big Steam seasonal sale will be the Winter sale, which kicks off on December 18. Before then, there are a few smaller events, including Steam Scream 4 between October 27 and November 3.

Given the fact that Borderlands 4 has already been discounted, we can probably expect it to get the same treatment once the Winter sale comes around, though we’d be surprised to see it be slashed any more than 20% just a few months after launch.
Borderlands 4 is a premium game
Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford was busy on social media following the game’s launch, calling it “a premium game made for premium gamers“. This was in relation to the performance issues players were suffering, but you could also say the ‘premium’ quality was reflected in the initial launch price. Borderlands 4 was initially slated for a $80 base price, causing plenty of outrage online, but then settled on $70 following all the backlash.
And don’t forget, paid DLC is on the way too (it’s free if you have the Super Deluxe Edition). A new vault hunter, aptly named C4SH, was announced in a teaser trailer a couple of weeks ago.
