Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a major upgrade for the PlayStation 5 Pro, and it’s arriving today (April 8). This free update has been highly requested by players, and it aims to take full advantage of the Pro hardware to deliver better visuals, smoother performance, and improved immersion in Night City.

One of the biggest upgrades comes from PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). This is an AI-powered upscaling technology that enhances image quality by improving every pixel on screen. The result is sharper visuals and more detailed environments, making everything from characters to vehicles look more realistic in 4K.

PSSR recently got an upgraded version, commonly known (unofficially) as PSSR 2, which will be utilized in Cyberpunk 2077. It can be enabled in the PS5 Pro’s Screen and Video options under the Video Output settings menu.

PSSR is included, but what else is new?

Lighting has also received a major boost. The update improves ray tracing using a new system that enhances how light, shadows, and reflections behave in the game. Night City is known for its neon-heavy visuals, and this upgrade makes those effects look more dynamic and lifelike. From sunlight reflecting off vehicles to glowing signs lighting up dark streets, the overall atmosphere should feel better.

Players will also get multiple graphics modes to choose from. The Ray Tracing Pro mode offers the highest visual quality, with all ray tracing features enabled, including reflections, shadows, and ambient lighting. This mode targets 40 FPS on VRR displays or 30 FPS on standard setups. For those who prefer smoother gameplay, Performance mode focuses on frame rate, reaching up to 90 FPS on supported displays while still maintaining good visual quality.

There is also a balanced option called Ray Tracing mode. This mode offers a mix of visual improvements and performance, delivering ray tracing enhancements while maintaining a stable 60 FPS. This gives players a middle ground between visuals and smooth gameplay.

Overall, this update significantly improves how Cyberpunk 2077 looks and runs on the PS5 Pro. For those who don’t know, the game is also available for free for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members, while the update will be free for everyone to download.
