Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls is already blocked in 132 countries, ahead of its open beta later this month

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated fighting games in recent years. Developed by Arc System Works and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the game has already generated plenty of excitement thanks to its fast-paced gameplay and iconic Marvel character roster. However, many PC players around the world have discovered that they won’t be able to buy the game on Steam at all, and likely won’t have access to an open beta this July.

According to SteamDB, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is currently unavailable in 132 countries. While players in regions such as the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, Canada, and several other major markets are unaffected, a large number of countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and other regions are blocked from purchasing the game.

Which countries can’t play Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls?

Although Sony has not officially explained the restrictions on the Steam store page, the reason appears to be tied to PlayStation Network (PSN) availability. The list of restricted countries closely matches the regions where PSN accounts cannot be created. This is similar to what happened with Helldivers 2, where Sony originally required PC players to link a PSN account. That decision resulted in the game being removed from sale in many countries before Sony later reversed the mandatory account linking following widespread backlash.

The situation with Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls appears to be different for now, as the restrictions are already visible on SteamDB months before launch. One possible explanation is the game’s planned crossplay between PlayStation 5 and PC, which may rely on PlayStation Network services. If that’s the case, Sony may have decided to limit sales in countries where PSN is unavailable. However, many players have questioned that decision.

Some fans point out that even if crossplay requires a PSN account, players who simply want to enjoy the game’s offline content or local multiplayer should still be able to purchase it. Fighting games have traditionally offered plenty of offline modes, and early information suggests Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will include more than just online matches.
