Noctua is best known for its iconic beige and brown color scheme, but this is just the ‘classic’ look. The company does have alternatives in its chromax.black and redux ranges, and it’s the former that may be getting a new addition soon. Noctua has teased a new ‘blacked out’ model on social media, likely to be the chromax.black version of the NF-A12x25 G2.

At the end of April, Noctua published a blog post to explain why it takes longer to release all-black versions of its fans. It compares it to “changing the color of a carbon-fiber Formula 1 part,” as the designers pay close attention to aspects such as weight, strength, and aerodynamics. This extreme attention to detail is a big reason why enthusiast PC builders trust Noctua.

New chroma.black Noctua fan is almost here

In the blog post we mentioned, Noctua says “we’re just about to release the chromax.black version of the NF-A12x25 G2,” so it’s more than likely that this post is referring to this model. It has been about 10 months since the regular version was released. Noctua has also been teasing the launch on its Instagram page, with various posts.

Transforming a regular beige and brown fan into its chroma variant takes some time, and the time difference this time around is “actually pretty close to as fast as possible,” says Noctua. A change in color pigments impacts the moulding process of these high-precision fans, with black pigments differing from the classic colors in surface area and thermal behavior.

The teaser post is short and sweet, though we hope to hear more about even more of Noctua’s upcoming products soon. The Austria-based team has already confirmed that it will be attending this year’s Computex in Taipei, taking place between June 2 and June 5. We’ll likely see more during the event – Noctua says it will “give a brief glimpse” of what’s coming next.

In other Noctua news, the team recently released free CAD models for 3D designers and printers to tinker with, albeit with a big disclaimer regarding commercialization. If you want to read more about Noctua-affiliated products, then we’ve reviewed a couple of collaboration products lately – the RTX 5080 Noctua OC Edition, and the Antec Flux Pro Noctua Edition PC case.
