Postponed Apple TV series ‘The Savant’ will finally be released this summer

The Jessica Chastain thriller series, The Savant, was originally set to air on Apple TV last September. However, the company decided to cancel the release at the eleventh hour. Star Jessica Chastain said she was ‘not aligned’ with Apple on the decision. As months passed, many doubted if the series would ever make it to air.
But finally, Chastain herself confirmed to Variety that “we’re going to see it”. Variety indicates that Apple is targeting a July release date, although that is not yet officially confirmed.
In the TV app listing for the show, The Savant is still labelled as a 2025-year series with a “coming at a later date” message. The page has not been updated since September when the launch was indefinitely delayed.
But, there is no doubt that Chastain herself has been informed that the series is back on the schedule. In the Variety interview, she says “Before it was like, I don’t know if we’re going to see it, but now I can say we’re going to see it”. We can presume an official announcement is imminent.
While Apple never gave an explicit reason for the decision to cancel the release last year, The Savant explores themes of online hate groups, domestic terrorism, and extremism. The plot seemingly overlapped too closely with the then-recent assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk, for Apple’s liking. Nevertheless, star and producer Chastain has made it clear that she did not agree with the decision.
Relations between the streamer and Chastain have remained friendly throughout. In addition to The Savant, Chastian is also currently filming a new limited series “The Off Weeks” for Apple, also starring Ben Stiller. She will also star in another Apple TV drama “The Dealer”, alongside Adam Driver.
