What we like about this Samsung 32-inch ViewFinity S8 monitor

Large 32-inch 4K display

This gives you loads of room to work with, especially if you’re viewing multiple windows at the same time, or editing work in creative apps with plenty of on-screen tools. It’s also large enough to double up as a ‘main’ screen for entertainment, too, especially for offices and bedrooms.

IPS display

Provides wider viewing angles, meaning you don’t have to sit dead-centre all the time to see what you’re doing. Also removes the risk of burn-in when using it for extended periods of time, which is something OLED users have to think about.

60Hz refresh rate

Quite standard, but not bad for smooth scrolling, navigation, and gaming at relatively high refresh rates. It’s not a pure gaming monitor, though; those are usually 4K, 144Hz, and pack adaptive sync technology for smoother visuals.

HDR10+

This is like a more dynamic version of HDR, so this monitor can essentially change its picture settings scene-by-scene with compatible media, instead of just applying a fixed setting throughout a show or movie. It’s better for movies which transition from bright scenes to dark scenes, for example.

USB-C with 90W PD

Genuinely useful, as it allows you to connect a laptop for display and charging at the same time, via a single cable.

USB hub and KVM switch

Instead of having to plug your peripherals directly into your laptop or PC, you can connect them to the monitor instead. Its KVM Switch allows you to switch devices without needing to unplug your peripherals. That’s a big win for laptop and PC setups, and saves you a ton of hassle.

Who is this Samsung ViewFinity S8 deal for?

If you’re looking for something primarily for productivity, which will give you crisp, sharp picture quality, genuinely useful features for laptops and multi-device setups, and an overall less aggressive gaming aesthetic than some of the Odyssey lineup, then this makes a lot of sense for the price.

I’d say that while it’s okay for gaming, it wouldn’t be my first choice. If you want something a bit better in this department, but still with the productivity prowess, a 4K mini-LED gaming monitor would be a good shout. Prepare to throw down some more cash, though, as at this size, you’re likely looking at a minimum of $500, I’d say.
