Use LineageOS And Raspberry Pi To Make Your Own Android TV Box

Tested On Raspberry Pi 4 But Available For Other Models Too

Hackaday just shared a way for you to get the benefits of Android TV without letting your smart TV talk directly to the internet.  This is a wonderful development considering how may TVs now want to show you advertisements on your home screen and possibly spy on anyone within range of its microphones.   There is now a branch of LineageOS which is specifically designed to let you run Android TV on a Raspberry PI.  It is simply a matter of picking the right image for your Pi, flashing it to an SD card and connecting it to internet and your TV.

This will give you much more control over what your TV can do and everything up to and including video hardware decoding should work right out of the box.  Your cable provider might make it difficult to get their signal to show, but with a bit of research and work you might be able to get your cable along with other streaming apps up and running.

Might be an interesting project for the long weekend, if you are Canadian that is.
