Valve continues to improve the Steam Deck with frequent updates, and the latest one brings a feature many players will find surprisingly handy. The new update, available now in the Preview/Beta channel, introduces a Customization tab that gives Steam Deck owners more control over how their game library looks or functions.

For anyone with a large collection of games, scrolling through a long list can sometimes feel overwhelming. This new feature is designed to make things easier and more organized.

What does the Beta update offer?

General

  • Added a Customization tab to game properties. The Customization tab allows users to set a custom sort title that will be used instead of the actual title when sorting games in the library.
  • Fixed a case where steam would freeze and fail to recover after a process crash.

Desktop

  • The Customization tab in desktop mode also allows users to view and set custom artwork for the game

The main change in this update is the ability to set a custom sort title for each game in your library. Instead of relying on the official game title, you can now rename it to whatever makes the most sense for you. This won’t rename the game in your library, but it will add a hidden name that Steam uses to sort your games. This is useful for bundling games from the same series together if they don’t already do so alphabetically. A good example is the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series.

Alternatively, you can use the new system as a way to tag your games to search for them more easily. For example, tag a selection of your favorite first-person shooter games as ‘FPS’ and they’ll all show together when you search for them.
