If you’re putting together a high-end gaming PC, don’t make the mistake of going for a cheap PSU, as that is the single component and the first line of defense that safeguards every component in your PC. We’d recommend going for at least a gold-rated PSU for excellent performance and efficiency.

That being said, the Corsair HX1000i is a fully modular PSU, and we’ve had the pleasure of thoroughly testing it in-house. The 1000W capacity should be enough to handle enthusiast-level combinations of graphics cards and processors; however, we’d recommend reading about it in detail in our review.

Corsair HX1000i performance

To gauge how well it’ll handle the power requirements for a high-end PC build, we installed the Ryzen 9 7950X and the RTX 3090 on our test bench and had this PSU power everything.

The combined power draw of these two components is 520W, but during testing, it often exceeds that. When we ran the Furmark 2 stress test for the CPU and GPU, the total power being pulled from the wall socket was 706W, which is nowhere near the limit of this power supply unit.

The efficiency recorded by the HX1000i’s own sensors indicated 93.93% efficiency, which is amazing but not surprising since it is a Platinum-rated PSU. When the workload was streamlined, we also saw the power draw dropping to 600W, and the 140mm fan didn’t disappoint as it didn’t make a lot of noise and kept the PSU at a comfortable temperature.

So, you should be able to easily use it with flagship offerings without worrying about whether this PSU will be able to handle the power requirement. However, if you’re planning to get the RTX 5090 with any of the enthusiast CPUs, we’d recommend opting for a 1200W PSU, unless the total power required would be under 1000W.

Is this deal worth it?

The Corsair HX1000i is a solid power supply unit and has excellent protective features, is ATX 3.1 & PCIe 5.1 compliant, has a platinum-rated efficiency, and the full modularity ensures easy cable management and less clutter. So, if you’re building a gaming PC with a high power requirement, we think that this PSU deserves some serious consideration.
