If you’re suddenly unable to search for emojis in Windows 10, last week’s Patch Tuesday update might be the reason. Microsoft rolled out the KB5062554 update as part of its July Patch Tuesday fixes for Windows 10 and 11.
While the update included the usual improvements, it appears to have quietly broken a basic feature, the emoji search panel triggered by Win + . (Period/Dot).
Users have reported that after installing the update, typing into the emoji search bar always returns the same result. You might see a “We couldn’t find this one” error message. It doesn’t matter what emoji you search for, the feature simply stops working.
This issue wasn’t present before the update. Multiple users confirmed on Reddit that the emoji panel worked as expected before installing KB5062554. After the update, search functionality broke immediately.
No acknowledgment from Microsoft yet
So far, Microsoft hasn’t recognized the problem. There’s no mention of the broken emoji search on the Windows 10 Release Health dashboard, and no known workaround has been shared by the company.
That silence might feel familiar to users sticking with Windows 10 despite its end of support. Although Microsoft now offers an extra year of updates — free for some and paid for others — bugs like this raise questions about how much attention Windows 10 will really get going forward.
While you could uninstall KB5062554 update to restore emoji search, doing so could remove important security patches. So, until Microsoft releases a fix for the issue, it’s best to keep scrolling through the emoji panel manually.
